ALBUM TO BE RELEASED IN 2022

A descendant of a large family of Malian griots from the village of Kenenkoun, in the Koulikoro region (55 km from Bamako), Moriba Koïta has been playing music since he was four years old.
He quickly abandoned the tamani (small armpit percussion) to devote himself to the n’goni, as tradition requires among the Koïta, masters in the art of playing this small four-string guitar.

Trained by his father, he was selected by the Ministry of Arts and Culture to join the Ensemble Instrumental du Mali for 12 years. His mastery of the n’goni Ba (bass n’goni) as well as of the n’goni Micin (high n’goni) will earn him the right to be solicited by the biggest stars of Mali.

He then founded the great Mandinka ensemble Mandé Foli, then the traditional group Sorotoumou and accompanied Manu Dibango, Mory Kante, Nayanka Bell, Sekouba Bambino Diabaté, Hank Jones and Cheick Tidiane Seck.

Moriba Koïta passed away on September 22, 2016.
